Meet our Chapter Block Kids Committee Co-Chair
Meet Megan Cater, a member of the NAWIC Atlanta Board of Directors. Megan began her construction career in recruiting before transitioning into business development and sales. Along the way, she discovered something she didn’t necessarily expect: an industry built just as much on relationships and partnerships as the projects themselves.
Career Journey
Megan’s first role in the construction industry was recruiting professionals across construction and engineering skill sets. From there, she transitioned into business development and sales, giving her the opportunity to continue building connections throughout the industry.
That relationship-driven career path turned out to be particularly fitting for what Megan would come to value most about construction.
Leadership
This year, Megan hopes NAWIC Atlanta members find more than professional development and networking opportunities. She wants them to find a genuine sense of community.
Her hope is that members have opportunities to network, grow and develop professionally while also discovering a safe and supportive space where they can be themselves.
For Megan, creating that environment means giving women room to explore new opportunities, make meaningful connections and know they have a community behind them.
Industry
One of Megan’s biggest surprises after entering construction was just how supportive the industry could be.
“When I started in the construction industry, I did not expect as many people to be so helpful and offer advice to me.”
Before joining the industry, Megan admits she had a very different perception. She expected a more cutthroat environment where everyone looked out for themselves.
Instead, she discovered that building relationships and partnerships is at the heart of the industry.
The willingness of others to offer advice, provide support and help her grow has completely changed the way she views construction.
Why NAWIC?
That same sense of support is what keeps Megan coming back to NAWIC year after year.
“NAWIC has provided a space for me to truly be myself and feel accepted.”
She appreciates the openness of the chapter and the ability to walk up to another member and immediately start a conversation. Through NAWIC, Megan has also found strong women she can confide in, learn from and look up to.
For her, it’s the combination of acceptance, encouragement and genuine connection that makes the NAWIC community special.
Beyond Construction
When Megan needs to switch out of work mode, she heads to the gym.
Working out after work has become one of her favorite ways to recharge and create separation between her professional and personal life. And she’s taken that passion well beyond the occasional workout.
Megan has already competed in a HYROX fitness competition and is currently preparing to take on her second.
Apparently, saying yes to a challenge doesn’t stop when the workday ends!
